In the midst of the hustle and bustle that mark the season, I invite you to join me in pondering the angel's announcement on that first Christmas Day - "Peace on earth and good will toward all." (Luke 2:14). We live in challenging times, in a world lacking but longing for peace. May Jesus present in each of us create peace in our hearts, in our families, in our neighborhoods, and in our country.
SMA Night at the Denver Nuggets!
Join us at the Denver Nuggets v Utah Jazz game on Tuesday, January 24, at 7:00 PM at the Pepsi Center. SMA families will receive special pricing and SAIMARAC will perform the National Anthem. If you arrive before the game, you can join the VIP Experience and get a close up view of the players warming up.
Last evening, the LS, MS, and HS choirs gave beautiful performances at the All Academy Choir concert. The audience was invited to participate in a holiday song sing-a-long, and a wonderful experience for everyone there.
Last minute shopping? SMA's 150th is a great choice.
Don't forget SMA's beautiful coffee table book! You can purchase a copy for $20 in the reception area of the Sanders House or contact Sister Regina Drey. She will gladly personalize the copy, gift wrap it, and mail it, too.
Last week, the second graders enjoyed a field trip to the Denver Art Museum where the Star Wars exhibit is in full force! The students had a great time exploring the museum and checking out the costumes from all the Star Wars movies.

On Friday, December 9, the Lower School celebrated Mass with students involved as readers, gift bearers, and musicians. In his homily, Fr. Bob Keller talked about Mary and her appearances to Juan Diego where she later became known as Our Lady of Guadalupe and to Bernadette Soubirous where she became known as Our Lady of Lourdes. He reminded us that Mary is our mother too, and that we encounter her in the love of our own mothers, friends, and the SMA community.

Middle School News & Events
On Monday, Mr. Mayfield's CAT will be taking a trip to a nearby Kmart to give a surprise gift to families who have items on layaway. They are giving the store money to pay off many accounts. Since the beginning of school, students have earned money to make these anonymous gifts possible. They will be paying off layaway account of for those in need. The students earns money from the beginning of the school year up until Christmas break.

Last week, the HS students enjoyed Ms. Mac's annual reading of The Best Christmas Pageant Ever. After the reading, the students enjoyed a beautiful Snack Attack provided by Academy Parents.
Last week HS students Abril Gallegos, Jisoo Kim, and
Mahlet Zegeye attended the Student Diversity Leadership Conference in Atlanta, Georgia. The three-day gathering brought together 1600 students from across the country to hear speakers and learn about diversity. The theme of the conference was "Advancing Human and Civil Rights: Fulfilling the Dream Together." The keynote speaker was Bryan Stevenson, founder of the Equal Justice Initiative. This conference encourages and teaches students to be change agents fighting for equity and inclusion.
The Tree of Life tile project created by the Ceramics II class is on display in the Coyle Gallery in the HS through Friday, December 16. Don't miss the students' work as well as pieces by guest artist Melissa Wickwire whose work inspired the project.
The HS Spring Musical, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, will hold auditions after winter break. All HS students are welcome and encouraged to participate as cast or crew. Please contact Kim Vance for more information. Directed by, Jennifer Condreay.

JK/K Group Visits are around the corner. Group Visits are an important part of the Admissions process for JK and Kindergarten. During the visit, teachers will work with prospective students in small groups, visit with each of them individually, and assess for school readiness. Reservations are required and registration is available through your Admissions portal. The Financial Assistance Portal at sss.nais.org is now available. New and returning SMA families are encouraged to begin the process of applying for financial assistance.
