Regina Drey SL Historian/Director of Loretto Projects
Sister Regina joined St. Mary's Academy first as a Middle School teacher, then as Communications Director, and is now its Historian and Director of Loretto Projects. Years ago, Sister Regina wrote newsletter articles about teachers who were with St. Mary's Academy for over 25 years and she wondered why they stayed so long. Sister Regina figured it out by doing it. She knows that life-learning is a reality for adults as well as students and has enjoyed the variety of work and challenges. Sister Regina has a BA from Webster University and a MS in communication from the University of Denver. She enjoys teaching students of all ages the remarkable story of St. Mary's Academy as well as connecting the school community with Loretto's mission and members today.
Sister Regina enjoys reading, gardening, Gulf Coast beaches, southern food, and playing with her 18-year-old cat, Frisky.
Last Thursday, the fifth grade students were treated to a mystery field trip to Coors Field. The day included interactive weather presentations hosted by the Colorado Rockies, Steve Spangler Science, 9News, and Colorado State University. The day ended with a Rockies game!
The third graders have been studying the Oregon Trail and learned that forts along the trail were places pioneers could barter and trade, rest, and socialize. The students each brought ten items that they thought would be valuable to trade with classmates. They learned how to acquire goods without money by bartering.

High School News & Events
SMA juniors celebrated an exciting and emotional rite of passage: the Ring Ceremony. Seniors took to the stage to share special, encouraging messages with juniors as they enter their final year at SMA.
Field Day, plus a chilly dunk tank and slip and slide fun, capped off the HS SHOUT Week that also featured a sale of student-made crafts and and an auction of homework passes and other coveted items. Congratulations to the students for their generosity in raising over $7,000 for the Loretto Hunger Fund.
May Queen Maggie Longenecker crowned the statue of Mary in the Circle Drive during the May Crowning ceremony. Maggie gave a reflection relating the Loretto School Values to the way Mary lived her life. Maggie and members of her court, Amanda Hall, Gabby Lorance, and Annie Tobler, also led the students in prayer. SAIMARAC provided the music and Junior Erin Curley made the beautiful flower crown. After the ceremony the seniors gathered on the steps around the statue. Ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade class leaders gave accolades to the seniors, presenting each one with a small gift. Another beautiful celebration of a long-standing SMA tradition!
Well done to all students recognized at the Senior Award Ceremony for their outstanding work in all their courses and extracurricular activities. Each year four special awards are presented to the graduating seniors:

The Sanders Citation Award: This award is given to the Senior who best exemplifies the spirit and commitment of one of our alumnae, Sister Helen Sanders, who graduated in 1925. The Jessie Forshee Award: This award is presented to the Senior who has been outstanding in academic achievement. This student must have a 3.8 GPA or above and have shown a general interest in all school activities. Congratulations to Lauren Carroll.
The Marian Award is the most prestigious award given to a graduating senior. It is presented to that student whom the faculty feels is most outstanding in leadership, loyalty, and academic achievement. Congratulations to Sarah Gamel (pictured top right).
