St. Mary's Academy Blog
To the members of the St. Mary’s Academy Community,
Our lives are full of change and this is true for our SMA community as well.  After 41 years of service, Kathryn McNamee, our dedicated High School Principal, has announced that she will retire at the end of the 2017-2018 school year.  Ms. Mac is a cherished member of St. Mary’s Academy and the Loretto community and she has enriched the lives of countless students, parents, co-workers, alumnae, and friends. We will recognize Kathryn in many different ways in the months to come.  As you may expect, we have begun our search for our next High School principal and I will update you on that process in the near future.  We are eternally grateful to Ms. Mac and look forward to celebrating the year ahead with her.

Dear St. Mary’s Academy Community:
Our lives are steered by uncertainties, many of which are disruptive or even daunting but that if we persevere and remain generous of heart we may be granted a moment of supreme lucidity, a moment in which all that has happened to us comes into focus as a necessary course of events and even as we find ourselves on the threshold of a bold new life that we have been meant to lead all along.”  Amor Towles
I was reminded of this quote as I recall the time I decided to become principal of
St. Mary’s Academy High School.  I have spent virtually my whole adult life in this most sacred place, and have been honored and privileged to have served the community: students, faculty, and parents.
And now it is time for me to retire. This has been a decision I have struggled with, as I have loved my experience, working in the Middle School in the turbulent ’70’s and ’80’s and then, especially with the girls in the High School.  I am grateful for my connection with all of you, and of course I will continue to support St. Mary’s Academy.
Kathryn McNamee
