They all make up the community of caring individuals who shape children’s love of learning. Children begin their journey at St. Mary’s Academy experiencing a year of learning like no other. Their learning is supported in a physically enriched environment that is infused with high academic and behavioral expectations—carried out with love and understanding. Children feel safe, confident, and are willing to try new exercises in this trusting environment. Our classrooms will encourage each child to learn through exploring each of their five senses. We work hard to successfully create authentic learning situations to maximize the acquisition of new skills.
Our class sizes are capped at twenty students, but our typical Junior Kindergarten is twenty students with three teachers. Our Kindergarten classes are most commonly fifteen students with one teacher each. This allows our dedicated faculty the opportunity to give each child individual attention and to customize teaching to help children grow educationally, emotionally, and socially. We are dedicated to ensuring that Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten are wonderful years for young children at St. Mary’s Academy—guiding these young children to be independent learners who are compassionate, engaged, and respectful members of our community.

St. Mary’s Academy’s elementary school, referred to as the Lower School, allows children to grow in a happy, positive community.
Our students build character (self-discipline, empathy, integrity, resilience and courage) as experienced through the lens of our four Loretto School Values of faith, community, justice and respect.
Our teachers nurture and challenge our students academically, physically, and spiritually as they develop a sense of themselves and their place in the world.
Teachers work in vertical teams, allowing them to truly know each student, where they are in their academic and emotional growth, and how to ready them as they move to the next level in their learning. An integrated curriculum connects subject matter and analytical problem-solving skills with the real world, engaging students’ hearts and minds in meaningful learning. With an emphasis on the whole child, our Lower School participates in a myriad of activities discovering new interests in sports, fine arts and community service.
