Creativity, imagination and excellence are at the heart of education at St. Mary’s Academy. Students engage in fine arts every day, including music, theater and visual arts.
Our goal is to help your child build technique and aesthetic awareness as well as grow his or her critical thinking and problem-solving skills in a way that extends beyond the classroom.
Performance opportunities, including events for peers, parents and entertaining guests at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House lobby, give students confidence in their skills and pride in their hard work.
Lower School students experience music, drama and art classes as a regular part of their school day. They also have the option to choose enrichment through participation in band, choir, orchestra, drama club and private music lessons. Students need no prior experience or instruction—whether private or within a group, practice is scheduled as part of their school day.
Middle School students have several performance and non-performance arts classes to choose from, including visual arts, drama, band, choir, orchestra, handbells, guitar, recorders and music appreciation. Students are encouraged to participate in the all-academy musical either onstage or behind the scenes.
High School students are able to continue exploring the arts in introductory level visual and performing arts classes to focus their interests and talents in advanced courses of study—from two- and three-dimensional art to photography and musical theater. Many of our students have been Regional and National Medalists in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards and are sought after by art institutions.
